IVA or Bankruptcy? IVA.co.uk Debt Debate Weighs Up Insolvency Options

Apr 9 2008
Location: Browns Courtrooms, 82 - 84 St Martins Lane, WC2N 4AA

- Date: Friday 2nd May 2008

- Time: 4 - 6pm

IVA.co.uk, the UK’s biggest online IVA community for information and advice about Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs), is pleased to announce that the next IVA.co.uk Debt Debate will be held on Friday 2nd May 2008 at Browns Courtrooms, Covent Garden.

The topic of this quarter’s IVA.co.uk Debt Debate is ‘Bankruptcy v IVAs’. With the credit crunch beginning to hit and some financial experts warning of recession and house price decline, many people will be considering taking out an IVA or declaring Bankruptcy in 2008.

During the course of the debate an expert panel of leading credit and debt industry professionals will tackle the key issues surrounding both solutions, including the pros and cons for consumers, creditors, IPs and the economy as a whole.

Peter Hobday, former "Newsnight" presenter, will field audience questions to an expert panel which includes:

Bill Burch, Compliance Consultant to the Insolvency Industry
Gill Hankey MBE, Director of the Bankruptcy Advisory Service
Heather Greig-Smith, Editor of Credit Today magazine
Mark Allen, Head of IVA’s at Grant Thornton
Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner for Jones Giles Ltd
Stuart Hopewell, Chairman of the Institute of Credit Management

Andy Davie, site manager for IVA.co.uk, said:

“The IVA.co.uk Debt Debates have become key dates in the personal finance industry calendar. This time, the debate will be held just hours after the Insolvency Service release the figures for bankruptcies and IVAs in the first 3 months of 2008, so this will represent the first opportunity for industry experts to reflect on newly reported trends. It should be quite a debate!”

This debate will be sponsored by Tuxedo Money Solutions and co-hosted by IVA.co.uk’s sister site, BankruptcyHelp.org.uk.

Julian Donnelly, site manager for BankruptcyHelp.org.uk said:

“The audience will be made up of industry experts as well as debtors who are in various stages of an IVA or bankruptcy. This should bring a real-life understanding to the floor and I look forward to a lively and thought-provoking debate.”
